Freshly Milled Fruit & Nut Slice
This is a healthy, nutritious twist on a classic slice my mum made for our family growing up. Loaded with dried fruit, coconut and chocolate chips, I remember it being so moreish and delicious. This slice takes me right back to my childhood; growing up on a farm, riding my go-cart down the big hill, picking mulberries in my mulberry-stained clothes, and getting home from school to this freshly baked slice on the kitchen bench, ready to eat with a chocolate milk. It's so nostalgic.
I love that it's now my turn to create amazing memories with my kids; ones centred around family, nutritious food and nature. I hope this recipe can help you create some incredible memories with your family too!
Energy Support
My eldest two kids are very active on our farm, and always seem to be hungry. As parents, my husband and I try our best to feed them nourishing foods that will satiate them and give them the protein and nutrients their growing bodies need to thrive. So when developing this recipe, I made sure to include specific ingredients to increase the protein, vitamin, minerals and for energy support.
This slice is made with freshly milled flour, for it's natural vitamins, minerals, healthy oils, and enzymes, and will help keep their bellies full for longer. It's both nourishing and delicious. This recipe can be used with any of our freshly milled flours, but we especially love Spelt or Barley. Both of these flours produce a lovely light, cake-like texture.
This slice also contains grass fed butter for higher omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins K2 and A, Butyric acid which fuels gut cells and lowers inflammation, and medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) a type of saturated fat that offers quick energy, supporting metabolism and brain function. Hemp seeds for energy & immune support, protein, minerals, vitamins and omegas 3 & 6. Pecans for vitamins, minerals & blood sugar regulation. Coconut for fibre and because it's rich in MCTs. Dark Chocolate for antioxidant-rich flavanols that support heart health by improving blood flow and cholesterol profiles, boosts brain function and mood, magnesium for energy and immunity, and fibre for gut health. Mixed spice for a delicious flavour, anti inflammatory properties and digestive support. Lastly, it is sweetened with raw honey for antioxidants & dried mixed fruit for more nutrients, not “empty” calories, and gentler on blood sugar and energy for your kids.
Make sure to grab a bag of our freshly milled flour so you can make this ASAP! I'm pretty confident you and your family are going to love it.
